Unforgettable Moments at the Third Chinese Corner Event

A Fusion of Culinary and Cultural Delights

The third Chinese Corner event during the chilly winter semester proved to be a heartwarming and memorable occasion. This time, participants extended beyond MCI students to include professors and students from the University of Innsbruck. The addition of the elective Package China/Taiwan/East Asia (BA and MA) at the University of Innsbruck enriched the diversity of participants, fostering vibrant communication.

The event commenced with students unfamiliar with Chinese expressing curiosity about the language. Enthusiastic students from the 'Online Chinese Classroom' introduced them to basic expressions and pronunciation, establishing a relaxed atmosphere and initiating a cross-cultural language journey.

Accompanied by traditional Chinese music, a hands-on experience unfolded—crafting wontons. The captivating process, demonstrated by two teachers from the MCI China Center, sparked the students' interest. Amid cheerful music, students actively joined in, wrapping their favorite wontons. While making wontons, dumplings, and buns is a familiar skill for many, this activity showcased a unique aspect of Chinese culinary culture, contrasting with common European fried wontons.

Beyond the culinary adventure, the event featured a variety of traditional Chinese foods, fostering communication and laying the foundation for future cooperation between MCI and the University of Innsbruck. Amidst the shared enjoyment of food, participants delved into culturally rich calligraphy practice, honing their skills and appreciating the unique charm of Chinese calligraphy.

This Chinese Corner event not only offered delectable food but also forged bonds of friendship, enhancing cross-cultural communication. Anticipating more such opportunities in the future, we aim to continue experiencing the charm of diverse cultures, collectively building a more vibrant academic environment, and contributing to friendships that transcend borders.
