Embracing Traditions, International Collaboration, and Joyful Festivities in the "Year of The Dragon"
On the evening of February 7, 2024, MCI China Center and Language Center collaborated to host a "Chinese Lunar New Year 春节" Event, celebrating the commencement of the auspicious "Year of The Dragon." The atmosphere was filled with excitement and cultural richness as attendees, most of them dressed in red, gathered for an unforgettable experience.
The event commenced with a welcome speech from Brigitte Huter, Head of the Language Center, and Prof. Dr. Wei Manske-Wang, Head of the China Center. Distinguished guests, Prof. Dr. Frank Kraushaar (online) from the University of Innsbruck and Prof. Dr. Hak Yeung from Shenzhen Technology University (MCI’s partner university in China) attended the event, adding a touch of international collaboration to the celebration.
Delving into the traditions of Chinese New Year, attendees were treated to captivating stories, including the legend of Nian 年, insights into the delectable cuisine of the reunion dinner 年夜饭, and a glimpse into the various customs associated with the festival. The enchanting tales were complemented by an informative introduction to the Chinese Zodiac and the mythical Chinese dragon, creating a deeper understanding of the cultural significance.
One of the event's highlights was a guest talk on Chinese Kung Fu 功夫 by Kung Fu Master Ji. He invited attendees to actively participate in an invigorating exercise session. Laughter and camaraderie filled the room as participants engaged in this dynamic activity, fostering a sense of cultural exchange.
A playful segment of the evening involved attendees guessing the riddles of lanterns 灯谜, with winners receiving delightful gifts from China. The event also allowed everyone to try their hand at the intricate art of Chinese paper-cutting 剪纸, creating beautiful pieces of art while enjoying each other's company.
Video greetings poured in from friends in Vienna, Ludwigsburg, Frankfurt, Hongkong, and Shanghai. Students from Chinese language classes extended New Year's wishes with the symbolic word "Loong 龙," ushering in good fortune and prosperity for the upcoming year.
The festivities culminated with a delightful dinner where attendees shared a meal, reinforcing the spirit of togetherness and harmony. The MCI China Center and Language Center's Chinese New Year celebration truly encapsulated the essence of cultural exchange and festive joy, marking a memorable beginning to the 'Year of The Dragon.'
“…thank you for organizing such a beautiful event at the MCI! I enjoyed every bit of it and am looking forward to the next one already…” Sergej Vasic, one of the 75 participants and a Master's student at MCI International Business & Management, expressed his gratitude.
