Connecting Cultures through the Bridge of Mutual Learning
On April 10, 2024, in Innsbruck, Austria, MCI | The Entrepreneurial School® and the Chinese Embassy in Austria jointly organized a Chinese cultural feast for the UN Chinese Language Day, which was hosted by Prof. Wei Manske-Wang, Head of MCI China Center. The event kicked off with an opening speech by MCI Rector Prof. Andreas Altmann transmitted via video, followed by warm welcoming speeches by Brigitte Huter (Head of the MCI Language Center) and Prof. Chongling Huang (Head of the Education Department of the Chinese Embassy in Austria).
The keynote lecture of the event, entitled "Traditional Chinese (Wen Yan Wen) as a Medium of Multilingualism in Pre-modern East Asia and Today”, was given by Prof. Dr. Frank Kraushaar, Scientific Director of the "China/Taiwan/East Asia" elective package at the University of Innsbruck. He discussed in depth the importance and influence of Traditional Chinese in modern society.
Next, Yiqiao Wang (Assistant and Chinese Teacher of MCI China Center) introduced the evolution of Chinese characters and the characteristics of existing Chinese dialects, which brought the participants a wonderful journey of linguistics.
During the interactive session, everyone experienced the magic of Chinese characters by actively participating in a game of matching pictograms and images, and MCI students shared their experiences in learning Chinese and took on a tongue-twister challenge, which brought the atmosphere of the event to a climax.
During the event, Mozarteum Salzburg University Master students Dou Huang (Orchestral Conducting) and Xiaofei Liu (Song & Oratorio) gave a wonderful performance of traditional Chinese folk music and vocal music, immersing people in the beautiful Erhu 二胡 music.
At the end of the day, all gathered together and enjoyed Chinese food while exchanging the charm of culture. There are more than 90 people from diverse backgrounds, including university faculty and students from MCI, University of Innsbruck. Even one student came from the Deggendorf Institute of Technology from Bavaria. This event brought each other closer and left behind long and beautiful memories of the Chinese language and culture.
