Exploring China's Diversity between Tradition and Innovation
On 24th May – The MCI China Center participated in the "Long Night of Research" 2024, which is held across various universities in Austria. The "Long Night of Research" (LNF) is a prominent event that aims to celebrate and disseminate knowledge across various domains, promoting interest in science and research among the general public, fostering communication between researchers and the public, and highlighting the importance of scientific advancements across various fields. With over 2,800 stations, guided tours, workshops, lectures, live presentations, and hands-on experiments to participate in, marvel at, and discover throughout Austria.
During the event, Prof. Wei Manske-Wang presented a lecture on diverse topics, including Chinese history, economics, technology, environmental sustainability, etc. These sessions were followed by interactive Q&A segments, allowing for dynamic exchanges with the audience.
The “Chinese Culture Corner station” offered a range of activities for an immersive cultural experience. These included Chinese calligraphy sessions, where attendees could learn and practice this ancient art form. Participants also had the opportunity to try traditional Chinese games, adding a fun and interactive element to the event. Additionally, there were exhibitions showcasing Chinese traditional musical instruments and other art masterpieces. To enhance the learning experience, the background information and organized workshops that allowed attendees to engage with various traditional Chinese art forms firsthand. Encouraging artistic expression and creativity, activities such as paper cutting were also included.
The event attracted a diverse and enthusiastic audience, facilitating meaningful exchanges of ideas and insights while showcasing China's significance to global progress. This year, the theme "Exploring China's Diversity between Tradition and Innovation," which provided an in-depth exploration of China's rich cultural heritage, technological innovations, and scientific advancements.
