But what sets the family business apart from a non-family business? The main difference is that the management of a family business is to a large degree influenced by family dynamics. The family system is shaped by emotions, familial needs, or continuous dependability, whereas the business system is dominated by daily business, performance, and aspects of demand and competition. In family-owned businesses, the two systems are inextricably linked.
