Turku, Finland, June 17, 2023 - From June 14-16, 2023, the UNESCO Chair in Futures Capability for Innovation and Entrepreneurship team attended the Futures Conference 2023 in Turku. The main theme of the conference was "Empowering Futures - Long-term Governance, Democracy and Futures Research."
Titled "Tracing the DNA of the Futures Literacy Concept: Bibliometric Insight on its Evolution, Potentials, and Future Research Avenues," the MCI team presented initial research findings from the chair that underscore the relevance of futures literacy as a concept. The conference provided a unique platform for interdisciplinary discussions on how we perceive the future and how futures research can contribute to empowering people, societies, and organizations to shape a more equitable and sustainable future. At a time of global sustainability and resilience challenges, shaped by the current turbulent global political situation, the conference was of particular importance.
The UNESCO Chair team would like to thank the conference organizers for the opportunity to participate in this exciting, informative, and educational exchange. Special thanks also go to the keynote speakers, who made outstanding contributions. Linking foresight with global challenges and long-term governance proved to be extremely enriching.
