About the project:

In an ever-changing world, the ability to anticipate and respond to future developments is crucial. The Reference Framework for Futures Literacy in Higher Education, initiated by the Federal Ministry of Women, Science and Research (BMFWF), aims to provide higher education institutions with the tools and resources they need to prepare students for the challenges and opportunities of the future. By developing a structured approach to promoting futures literacy, we want to ensure that future generations have the necessary skills to succeed in a dynamic and complex world.

The project comprises several work packages that systematically aim to collect relevant models, develop a competency model and formulate learning objectives and guidelines. Close cooperation with experts and implementation workshops will ensure that the concepts developed are practical and feasible. Our aim is to create a sustainable basis for the integration of futures literacy into higher education and thus optimally prepare students for the challenges of the future.

Work packages:

1. Survey of relevant models and systematic identification of key competencies for futures literacy

In this first work package, relevant models are analyzed and the key competencies that are crucial for futures literacy are identified. This will be done through a comprehensive literature review and the involvement of experts to ensure that the relevant approaches and scientifc findings are used.

2. Development of the competence model

A detailed competency model will then be developed on the basis of the key competencies identified. This model will serve as a guideline for universities to support the integration of “Futures Literacy” into their curricula.

3. Development of learning objectives and instructions for action, including implementation workshops

In this step, specific learning objectives and guidelines are formulated that help teachers to teach the identified skills effectively. In addition, implementation workshops are offered to promote the practical application of the learning objectives and support the exchange between universities.

4. Project management and reporting

Effective project management is crucial to the success of our initiative. It is ensured that all progress is documented and regular reports are produced to ensure transparency and quality assurance.
